This setting of the Song of Mary was composed for the "Music Award for Choral Music" presented by edition49 and Musikwerkstatt Siegburg, where it was awarded a shared third place out of approximately 300 submissions from 19 countries.
The music combines rhythmically free declamation with polyphony and word painting to interpret the text. Compared to other Magnificat settings, the word painting is minimalist and at times quite subtle. Whereas tonality and melodic lines are very simple and therefore easy to learn, the rhythmic structure requires some rehearsal time because the rhythm should be free and based on the naturally spoken text.
