This secular song was, beside "Doulce memoire", the most popular French chanson in the 16th century, as can be concluded from the fact that many printed lute books included an intavolation of it. This edition is based on facsimile copies of three 16th century prints. I have added a lute part by myself, that is based on motives from historic intavolations of this chanson by Waissel and da Crema. See the notes at the end of the edition for details.

A complete facsimile reprint of the "Livre septieme des Chansons" published 1597 by Bellere in Antwerp is available at a low price from Dr. Bernd Christoph Becker, Cologne. Apart from the present chanson, this volume contains many other 16th century "hits", so it is a good choice if you are looking for only a single volume containing a decent selection of French chansons.
